The chain blood donation camp is being organised as a part of NSS’s participation in Samarth Bharat Abhiyan campaign and also to mark 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The notification issued by Savitribai Phule Pune University says that the blood donation camps are also a part of celebrations for the golden jubilee year of formation of National Service Scheme. National Service Scheme (NSS) was introduced at Savitribai Phule Pune University since 1969, as per the official website of SPPU.
A list of 21 affiliated colleges, where the camps will be held has been uploaded by Savitribai Phule in a notification issued on Friday.
“NSS is a programme for students to cater to the needs of the community, as and when required. It will also help the students to communicate with the society. The students joining this scheme develop many behaviorial interactive skills. They visit the rural areas as NSS volunteers during the camps organized by the concerned colleges or departments of the university. The NSS volunteers take initiative in developing a Technocratic Environment and also help the underprivileged people to develop themselves,” says the official SPPU website.
