This centre will be named after freedom fighter and first MLA of Odisha, Sarala Devi. It will have an office in the campus of state’s first women university.
The Sarala Devi Gender Research Centre will conduct research, study, analyze and discuss on gender related issues, women’s rights and other related aspects.
This centre will be inaugurated on Friday. Students from science, arts, commerce and other professional courses can carry out research on gender issues. Documentation and other research works will be done in the centre, said university vice chancellor Padmaja Mishra.
“We will start the centre from Friday. Later we will make it a Centre of Excellence. Department of gender studies will be the coordinator of the centre initially, but we will include other departments for coordination and research works,” said the vice chancellor.
She said her university will sign memorandum of understanding with Delhi University on Friday. Later the university will collaborate with other organizations or institutions for gender studies, she added.
In December last year, the vice chancellor had announced to start this centre in the campus after getting approval from the state government.
On November 1, this women’s university had opened an Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) cell to look after the activities related to the intellectual property of the institution, evaluation and filing of patents, copyrights and trademark.
